Ongoing Projects

Copperas Cove Jr. High School Renovation

The renovation of Copperas Cove Jr. High, to include the expansion of the campus' cafeteria and addition of bathrooms inside the cafeteria, were approved by voters in Proposition A of Bond 2025. On September 14, 2026, the Board of Trustees approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price of approximately $12.3 million plus soft costs, which includes an additional 10,000 square feet of space not included in the initial proposal, as well as five additional projects to improve and modernize the Copperas Cove Jr. High campus.

LED Lighting Upgrades

In an effort to reduce recurring expenses for electricity in CCISD facilities, the district has begun replacing existing lighting inside campuses with LED lights. This action was included in the insurance claim which repaired Williams/Ledger Elementary. Other campuses not included in Bond 2025 were approved by the Board of Trustees in an omnibus package at the Special Called Meeting held June 8, 2026. Hettie Halstead Elementary was completed in August 2026 and Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy was completed in September 2026.

Elementary School Playground Replacement

On December 15, 2025, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees approved the replacement of playgrounds at all five K-5 elementary campuses in Copperas Cove ISD, with each including a shade to meet modern student safety standards. These projects total $2,693,185.68 and will be paid for out of Fund Balance.

These projects are on track to be completed ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

Hanke Field Track Replacement

The Board of Trustees approved the resurfacing and repair of the track at Hanke Field, located at S.C. Lee Jr. High, at their March 23, 2026 regular meeting at a cost of $297,904 from fund balance. The project is being completed by ProTech Track & Tennis and the project is projected to be complete in time for the 2026-27 school year.

Bulldawg Stadium Track Resurfacing

The Board of Trustees approved the resurfacing and repair of the track at Bulldawg Stadium at their February 3, 2026 regular meeting at a cost of $415,700.00 from fund balance. After the track was removed following the conclusion of the Track & Field Season, additional repairs to the asphalt underneath the track. Those additional repairs were approved by the Board of Trustees on April 27, 2026 at a cost of $180,170.00 from fund balance. Once the asphalt was removed, additional repairs were found to be necessary. Concrete Stabilization was approved by the trustees at a cost of $89,866.00 at a Special Called Meeting on May 11, 2026. The project was completed in July 2026.

Outdoor Venue Lighting

The lighting at outdoor venues across Copperas Cove ISD sustained damage during hail storms and was not working to an effective level. The replacement of the existing lighting at all outdoor facilities with LED lighting was approved by the Board of Trustees on May 12, 2026, with Symmetry Sports Construction for a total cost of $707,250.00. The district is working to recover the money from its insurance company, with the contract approved pay out of fund balance.

Williams/Ledger Elementary School Reconstruction

The reconstruction of Williams/Ledger Elementary School follows substantial damage to the campus which occurred during heavy rains in July 2025. This project was declared an emergency by the CCISD Board of Trustees at its Aug. 12, 2025 meeting and is being funded through fund balance and the district's insurance provider.

Lea Ledger Auditorium Rigging Update - Completed January 2026

The update to the rigging system at Lea Ledger auditorium, including the control system used for operating the rigging, was approved by the Board of Trustees at its Nov. 19, 2024 meeting and paid for out of fund balance.

This project was completed in January 2026.

Baseball & Softball Field Conversion - Completed January 2026

The conversions of the Copperas Cove High School baseball & softball fields to artificial turf was approved by the Board of Trustees at its Aug. 12, 2025 meeting and paid for out of fund balance.

Both fields are on track to be completed in time for practice to begin in January 2026.
