The Golden Dawgs program is open to any Copperas Cove ISD resident age 60 or older, with opportunities to learn about the district, engage with its program offerings or even volunteer on the campuses, when appropriate.

The "Golden Dawgs" will kick off the 2026-27 school year on Sept. 2nd at the CCISD District Training Facility, located behind Copperas Cove Jr. High on Joe Lombardi Way.

What's included?

Regular events from town halls and information sessions, to engagement visits and volunteer opportunities
Golden passport
- Free general admission to all athletic events sponsored by Copperas Cove ISD
- Free admission to all band concerts, choir performances and drama presentations sponsored by Copperas Cove ISD (except dinners held to raise funds)
- Free admission to all educational events sponsored by Copperas Cove ISD at which a fee might be charged (excluding events where meals are served and for which there is a fee, such as PTA or booster club dinners)
- A 25% savings on all tickets purchased for CCISD sponsored Lea Ledger Fine Arts activities

Please note that the district is required, by state law, to complete a background check of all volunteers.

The Golden Dawgs will be able to visit our career programs during the day on Wed., May 7th at Copperas Cove High School. Please do not arrive before 9:15 a.m., as we will start at 9:30 a.m. and go until about 11:30 a.m.

After a short information session with the CTE folks, we will begin touring programs for about 20 minutes apiece, with each member able to visit three programs out of: Culinary Arts, Advanced Manufacturing/Robotics, Information Technology and Print Shop.

Our culinary program offers the ability to purchase a small lunch, coffee or smoothie. They operate on a cashless basis, so if you would like to purchase anything to pick up on your way out of the event, please bring a debit or credit card with you as this will be "on-your-own." You can view the menu online at this link. The menu may not display outside of "restaurant hours," but will show during the window. You can also view it on the Local by Toast app on your smartphone. This is only available to those on-campus, so please don't order through the online platform and only place your order when we are at CCHS on May 7th.

Yearly Kickoff - Aug. 27, 2025

We will kick the new year off next Wednesday, Aug. 27th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street. In this yearly kickoff, we'll have time to talk with Director of Instrumental Music Mario Morales, Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Rodney Southern and Head Volleyball Coach/Assistant A.D. Christy Thompson about their programs and upcoming seasons.

School Finance Info Session and Q&A - Sept. 23, 2026

School finance is a complicated topic and is constantly changing. Superintendent Dr. Hawkins and Chief Financial Officer Cliff Heath will be available to simplify it, explain the budget process and the priorities in CCISD's first balanced general operating budget in four years, and where the district is headed based on its evolving needs. This session will be held in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be available.
