Curriculum Oversight
CCISD's Instructional Services team reviews the district's curriculum every year, ensuring the students in Copperas Cove are working with the most up-to-date, research-driven instructional materials available.
Once instructional material is selected by a committee and approved by the Board of Trustees, our team begins training every teacher in the district on it to create the greatest possible impact for every student.
This approach has led to great success, with Cove students out-performing the region and state across all subjects on state-mandated assessments.

Early Literacy
Copperas Cove ISD has seen enormous benefits after implementing a successful curriculum focused on phonics and phonemic awareness for students in Pre-K through 6th grade, building a strong foundation for all subjects.
Every teacher in Copperas Cove serving Pre-K through 3rd grade students has completed the Texas Reading Academies, gaining valuable training, classroom observations and coaching from highly-qualified educators to ensure the teachers are well-equipped to support our students’ literacy development.
Every administrator at a CCISD elementary campus has also completed the Texas Reading Academies, further strengthening our commitment to lead our district to outstanding early literacy achievement.

STEM, Coding & Robotics
All CCISD elementary campuses offer robotics for K-5 students. Robotics classes are also available at all four junior high & high school campuses.
Engineering Design is offered at all junior high & high school campuses.
Coding, eSports and Video Game Design programs are also offered for students at Copperas Cove High School. Elective coding courses are offered for students at both Copperas Cove and S.C. Lee Jr. High Schools.
Other STEM initiatives in CCISD include:
- Robotics Club Showcase
- STEM Girl Day at UT-Austin
- Hour of Code
- Digital Citizenship Week
- STEM & Coding Nights on campuses

Accelerated Math Education
All 8th-grade students in CCISD take Algebra I, earning high school credit while still in junior high school.
This allows all students the opportunity to take more advanced math courses in high school, including Pre-Calculus and Calculus, further preparing them for college admissions and careers in STEM.
Despite this accelerated model, Cove 8th-graders continue to out-perform their peers across the state on state-mandated math exams. See the scores for yourself on the Annual Performance Report, linked at the top of this page.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to work together to help the student achieve his/her individual goals by providing instruction and support aligned with national, state, and district standards. Teachers in Copperas Cove Independent School District are expected to follow the curriculum and instructional best practices set forth by the district. Curriculum-Based Measures will be used throughout the school year to determine if teaching methodologies in the classroom are effective with students and student groups, to guide instruction, and to determine the need for staff development.
