Transportation Update

Dear Williams Ledger Families,

As you know, our campus will remain closed while repairs are underway from storm damage. We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this temporary transition together. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will be relocated to Fairview Jewell Elementary (FJE), and students in 4th and 5th grade, as well as those in self-contained special education classes, will attend Martin Walker Elementary (MWE). We are now ready to share transportation options and need your input to help finalize student assignments.

Transportation Overview:

To support our students, two sets of buses will be used to transport WLE zoned students to their temporary campuses:

  • Bus Riders: WLE zoned students, who are always eligible to ride the bus, will continue to ride their regular buses.

  • Walkers & Car Riders: WLE zoned students, who are typically not eligible for a bus, will be offered bus transportation with designated pickup and drop-off bus stops along Dryden Avenue, Hill Street, and throughout the Heartwood Park neighborhood. Your student(s) will be assigned a specific bus stop based on your home address.

Morning Transportation:

  • All WLE zoned students in need of transportation will be picked up at their assigned neighborhood bus stop.

  • Kindergarten–3rd grade students will be dropped off at FJE and welcomed by school staff.

  • 4th–5th grade students will transfer to another bus at FJE and then be transported to MWE where school staff will welcome them. This transfer is necessary to allow drivers to maintain their routes for secondary campuses. Transportation staff will be present to supervise the transfer.

  • Students who ride a special education bus will continue to ride the same assigned bus without a transfer.

Afternoon Transportation:

  • Kindergarten–3rd grade students will load buses at FJE.

  • 4th–5th grade students will load buses at MWE and travel to FJE. There, students will transfer, and board the same buses as the Kindergarten–3rd grade students and return to their designated bus stops along Dryden Avenue, Hill Street, and throughout the Heartwood Park neighborhood.

  • Students on special education buses will be picked up at MWE and returned directly to their drop-off locations—no bus change will be required.

We understand a preliminary survey was sent previously, but now that a detailed transportation plan is in place, we need more specific information to ensure every student is assigned to the correct stop and schedule. Please take a moment to complete the updated transportation survey linked below by Wednesday, August 6th. https://forms.office.com/r/5txpfs5PZy?origin=lprLink

Students attending WLE on an approved transfer are not eligible for district transportation, per the transfer agreement. Families of transfer students must arrange their own transportation to and from the host campuses.

Your timely response is critical to helping us finalize our transportation plan and ensure a safe and smooth transition for all students. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
