We have had a tremendous start to the school year and I am excited to see all of the success this year will bring for our students. I want to begin by thanking every parent and team member in the district for their understanding, grace and flexibility through the challenges at the start of this year. Between the growth our district has seen for this year and the citywide water emergency during the first week of school, I understand there have been many challenges and I appreciate your grace and flexibility as we navigated these challenges together.
This week, our district learned that nine campuses in CCISD saw their Purple Star Campus designations renewed for two more years. This award means a lot, as we take a lot of pride in working to serve every Bulldawg family, especially those who serve our nation. We are working with the Texas Education Agency and our partners on Fort Hood to ensure our district returns to 100% Purple Star status soon, as that is our expectation in how we serve those serving us.
Our district has recently launched a new website with our new partner, Edlio. This new website is designed to streamline and improve the user experience and we will soon roll out additional features which will help us do this, including a chatbot. More information on some of these features which will greatly benefit our families will be emailed to parents once they're ready and I think you'll be happy about the updates. We are also, continuing to work toward improving how we communicate with and engage with our community. Parents, if you are able, we would appreciate feedback on flyer distribution at the linked one-question survey as we continue to evaluate how we operate.
Later in this newsletter, we will dive into several things that have happened in recent weeks. Among those is the trustees approving a balanced general operating budget for the first time in four years. This is an enormous accomplishment thanks to the work of every staff member and trustee in our district. It is important we live within our means as a district, and this budget reflects that work. We were able to achieve this without sacrificing student opportunities and while still providing raises for staff. Please click the link below to read more on what this budget addresses.
This budget isn't the end, though, in remaining a responsible steward of our community's tax dollars. We know there is a lot of misinformation surrounding school finance and want to do our best to help everybody get a better understanding of what our team is required to navigate. We have also launched a new Money Matters campaign on our social media platforms and our website. This is an effort we are taking on to provide a deeper understanding of why certain decisions are made in the district, the challenges which have been placed on Texas public schools and the changing nature of the world of school finance.
Thank you for everything you have all done to help us Unlock The Dawg this year. I know we still haven't reached our maximum potential as a district and our entire staff is working tirelessly to get there. I appreciate you all, no matter your role in our community schools, for what you have done and will continue to do as we continue to Unlock The Dawg.

Good Things
Thank you to everybody who made our annual Convocation the most spirited one, yet! Congratulations to the Top Dawgs in the district and thank you to our staff for kicking off the 2026-27 school year in true Bulldawg fashion.
Thank you to the entire Bulldawg Community for making the 12th-annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive the most successful one, yet! We estimate we received $50,000 worth of school supplies which were ready for our students to return on Aug. 17th, meaning these donations made an immediate impact in our schools. More photos. Thank you to the Bulldawg community for coming together, once again, for the annual Peanut Butter Bowl. Every jar of peanut butter collected stays right here in Copperas Cove and helps two local food pantries feed families in need. The results are still being calculated, but we're optimistic that the Dawgs will come out on top, once again!
The S.C. Lee Jr. High 8th-grade football team was recognized for its work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $339.12 in cash donations.
The Copperas Cove High School varsity football team and boys track team were recognized together for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $394 and $427, respectively, in cash donations.
The Copperas Cove Jr. High 8th-grade football team was recognized for its work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $428 in cash donations.
The Copperas Cove High School Copperettes were recognized for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, helping with the event's ribbon cutting and raising $437 in cash donations.
The Copperas Cove High School cheerleaders were recognized for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $489 in cash donations.
The combined dance and cheerleading teams at Copperas Cove Jr. High were recognized for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $612 in cash donations.
The S.C. Lee Jr. High cheerleaders were recognized for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, raising $956 in cash donations.
Representatives from Walmart Supercenter of Copperas Cove were recognized for their help hosting the 12th-annual Stuff the Bus event. Walmart also collected donations in multiple ways from the community and donated $1,000 to the event at the ribbon cutting.
The Copperas Cove Lions Club was recognized for their work volunteering at Stuff the Bus, providing support throughout the day Sunday.
The Copperas Cove ISD Child Nutrition team was recognized after winning several awards in recent weeks. The department was recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture for increase in breakfast & lunch participation. Melissa Bryan was recognized as the Texas School Nutrition Director of the Year and for Outstanding Nutrition Education in Multiple Site events. Lorrie Hornaday was recognized by TDA for Partnership in Education. Juneth Anderson and Leslie Fraser were recognized for Outstanding Nutrition Education at a Single Event. And Rachel Vasquez and Melissa Moreno were recognized for Outstanding Nutrition Education at a Single Site event.
