Poster with picture and logo. Counselor Spotlight. AudreyTrahan, Crossroads High School. What is one of your favorite quotes? “I'm not interested in whether you've stood with the great; I'm interested in whether you've sat with the broken.” ― Sue Fitzmaurice What is one of your hobbies? I love working on puzzles, cooking, playing board/card games, and playing games on my phone. What is your favorite coping skill for stress? Taking deep breaths, going for a walk outside or separating myself from others if possible, and talking it out with someone. What made you decide to pursue School Counseling? I taught for seven years and truly loved it, but I grew increasingly frustrated by the limited time and resources available to support my students when they faced family or personal challenges. I found it difficult to balance teaching with providing the counseling they needed. Often, I had to refer them to the school counselor—and then I never knew what happened afterward. I wanted to make a deeper, more lasting impact. While teaching leaves a significant mark, I felt called to support my students in a more personal and meaningful way. Amy Trimm, who transitioned from teacher to counselor herself, offered me invaluable guidance and encouragement on how to make the switch. I took her advice and pursued the path—and I’ve never looked back since. Who is one of your heroes/role models? I don’t really have any specific role models or heroes, but there are people in my life who inspire me in different ways—my co-workers, my daughter, my sister, and my friends. It’s often the small, everyday things we do that leave the biggest impact on those around us. What is something that makes you smile? My daughter --seeing her happy and excited about life always brightens my day. I also smile when I see my students succeed, whether it’s in academics or in their personal lives. Watching them grow and thrive makes me truly grateful to be part of their journey. What do you love most about your job? I love working with my students at Crossroads because I get to support them through real-life challenges and situations. Whether it’s helping them find a job, secure housing, get clothing, or connect with colleges and universities, I’m there to guide them every step of the way. I also have honest conversations with them about their life choices, helping them see the bigger picture before making decisions that could affect their future forever. Encouraging them to stay in school and earn their diploma is a big part of what I do. What I love most is knowing that everything I do—whether it’s something as simple as giving them a Dum Dum sucker or slowly building trust—truly matters to each of my students.
