COPPERAS COVE – A veteran Central Texas educator is now tasked with overseeing Copperas Cove ISD’s financial interests.

Thursday, during a special meeting of the CCISD Board of Trustees, the board approved by 7-0 vote the hiring of Cliff Heath as the district’s new Chief Financial Officer.

Heath joined CCISD in June of 2023 as Director of Student Services, where he helped facilitate student discipline initiatives, student transfers, attendance and student health. He came to Copperas Cove from Bosqueville, where he was the Principal at Bosqueville Middle School & Bosqueville High School from 2015-2023.

While in Bosqueville, Heath oversaw separate budgets for each facet of the building and helped achieve an “A” rating from the Texas Education Agency for each campus for the 2021-22 school year.

“I am honored to serve the students and staff of CCISD in this new role and I am grateful to Dr. Burns and the Board for this opportunity,” Heath said. “I look forward to working closely with the dedicated team here to foster financial stability and support the district’s commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for every student.”

Prior to Bosqueville, Heath joined Midway ISD in 2007 as an assistant principal, working in that role at three campuses, including Midway High School, where he was from 2012-15. He began his career in education as a teacher and coach at Tennyson Middle School in Waco ISD in 2002.

Heath is certified as a superintendent and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from East Carolina University, as well as a Master’s Degree from Tarleton State University. He is also an active member of the Copperas Cove Lions Club and Texas Association of School Business Officials.

“We are thrilled to have Cliff Heath as the new Chief Financial Officer for Copperas Cove ISD,” superintendent Dr. Joe Burns said. “Mr. Heath’s knowledge of public schools will make him a great fit as CFO, where we will continue to be good stewards of our community’s tax dollars.”

A search for CCISD’s next Director of Student Services will begin immediately.

Also during Thursday’s meeting, the Board of Trustees completed their evaluation of Dr. Burns and reviewed his contract as Superintendent of Schools.

Currently, four campuses in CCISD hold “A” ratings from the TEA, as issued in the 2022 accountability ratings. In September, the U.S. Department of Education named House Creek Elementary School a National Blue Ribbon School, the first in CCISD.

The Board of Trustees is next scheduled to hold its regular workshop for the month of January at Noon on Jan. 17th, with the regular meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18th. Both meetings will be held at the CCISD Service and Training Center at 408 S. Main St.
