COPPERAS COVE  - A Bulldawg was recognized as one of the top liaisons for military connection in the greater Fort Hood area.

Copperas Cove High School student activities coordinator Rebecca Garbacky was named Outstanding School Point of Contact in working with the Fort Hood Adopt-a-Unit/Adopt-a-School program. This award recognizes Ms. Garbacky as the top campus liaison in the Fort Hood area.

“Receiving Outstanding School POC in just my second year is something I never expected and I am incredibly humbled by this recognition,” Garbacky said. “What makes this honor even more meaningful is knowing it represents a partnership built on trust, service and heart. The 15th Finance Battalion has shown up for our students time and time again, giving their time, their energy and their presence in ways that truly make a difference. To also celebrate Partnership of the Year, along with their well-deserved recognitions, is a testament to what can happen when we work together with a shared purpose.”

Garbacky is in her second year as student activities coordinator at CCHS, where she oversees the campus’ efforts in the program and the partnership with 15th Finance Battalion from Fort Hood.

They also won Partnership of the Year and the Outstanding Partnership award, for the campus’ and unit’s collaboration on the campus’ fitness test in the 2025-26 school year.

“It is an honor to serve the families who serve our great nation,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “To be able to partner with these phenomenal soldiers, though, and make our schools a better place is incredible and I’m grateful for the work they do for our school every day. Ms. Garbacky is a phenomenal asset to our school community who is incredibly deserving of this honor.”

Almost half of the more than-7,600 students in Copperas Cove ISD are military-connected, the largest percentage of any school district associated with Fort Hood.

In 2024, CCISD became just the 13th 100% Purple Star district in Texas, with each campus earning the Purple Star Designated Campus award for its work to serve military-connected families and their unique needs.

“‘One Pack, One Purpose’ is more than just a motto, it’s what we live every day through this partnership,” Garbacky said. “I am beyond grateful, deeply honored and excited for many more years of serving alongside the 15th Finance Battalion. None of this would have been possible without them.”
