COPPERAS COVE – Trustees heard a series of presentations, including an update on the district’s progress in implementing the facility improvements in Bond 2025.

Monday, during its regular June meeting, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees heard updates regarding student outcomes on state-mandated assessments, the projected timeline on Bond 2025 projects and other ongoing construction projects.

Berry & Clay Construction Managers and Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong Architects provided an update on Bond 2025 projects to the Board of Trustees. In that update, the trustees were informed that GLS is on track to deliver drawings of the renovation to Copperas Cove Jr. High to Berry & Clay in early July. The drawings for the Fairview/Jewell are projected to be delivered about 30 days after that, with Copperas Cove High School set for delivery in January, due to the complexities involved with a larger-scale project.

Once the drawings are delivered to the construction manager, they are reviewed and then sent out for bids. Both GLS and Berry & Clay are prioritizing efficiency with the tax dollars, ensuring quality work in a budget-conscious manner.

“We are optimistic that, before long, our community will see visual progress on these projects to improve the facility standard  for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “This is a long process and we are far from done, but to get to this point in only seven months after canvassing the results has taken an extraordinary level of support from everybody in the district and on the Board of Trustees.”

During the update on ongoing construction projects, the trustees were informed the new track at Bulldawg Stadium is nearing completion. Williams/Ledger Elementary’s repairs are also nearing completion, which puts it on schedule for teachers and staff to return to the campus for the 2026-27 school year.

Dr. Hawkins shared with the trustees that the ribbon cutting to celebrate the re-opening of the Williams/Ledger Elementary campus on Aug. 3rd. More information will be shared in the coming weeks on CCISD communication channels.

Finally, the Board of Trustees received an update on 3rd-8th grade STAAR performance, with the district showing improved results on 12 of 18 tests, including with high school end-of-course exams.

On state-mandated exams, CCISD remains on-pace with or out-performed by the TEA’s Region 12 and the state.

“Our students have always been exceptional, and this year is no different,” Dr. Hawkins said. “The results from this year’s testing proves that the best teachers in central Texas are in Copperas Cove and reflects on the hard work each of them, as well as every parent and student, puts in to the success of their students.”

The trustees also reviewed College, Career & Military Readiness projections, which show that 99% of 2026 graduates in CCISD are College, Career & Military Ready, as outlined by the Texas Education Agency.

The Board of Trustees is next scheduled to hold its Special Called/Workshop Meeting on July 20th with its next Regular Meeting scheduled for July 27th. Both meetings are scheduled to take place in the Board Room, located at the CCISD Service & Training Center on South Main Street.

Agendas are posted three business days prior to each meeting outside the District Service & Training Center. Once posted, they can be viewed online at CCISD.com/SchoolBoard.
