COPPERAS COVE – Trustees have approved the next steps toward launching Central Texas Innovation Academy this fall.
Monday, during its regular meeting, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees approved the establishment of a full-time hybrid campus in the district.
This approval is one which codifies CCISD’s launch of the Central Texas Innovation Academy for the 2026-27 school year.
“As a district, one of our goals is to meet the needs of modern students,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “Education has changed in recent years and students have needs as unique as they are. It’s important that our district work diligently to ensure every student has an opportunity for success, and the establishment of a full-time hybrid campus allows us to do just that.”
A hybrid educational approach is nothing new to CCISD, as it’s been in place at Crossroads High School for a smaller group of students. While following a hybrid model in the past several years, Crossroads has seen its state accountability rating reach an ‘A’ in the past three years.
Crossroads High School has been reorganized to become CTIA for the coming school year, where it will serve students from Grades 3-12 in a virtual or hybrid approach. The approval provided Monday allows for clear guidelines on operations, academic standards and innovative instructional models to shape the success of the campus after it’s launched.
Central Texas Innovation Academy is open to students across Texas. The campus offers the same dual-credit, career and extracurricular programs available to students who are attend wholly in-person. Families with available transportation means can attend CTIA and capitalize on one of CCISD’s award-winning in-person programs.
“Our Instructional Services team has worked hard to make sure we aren’t just forcing in-person instruction into an online setting,” Dr. Hawkins said. “CTIA will combine proven curriculum in a virtual setting with high-performing teachers who have a proven track record in this setting and in building a positive relationship with students. This will, in my opinion, truly set it apart from other virtual options and allow our district to meet the changing needs of modern students.”

Additionally, trustees approved an out-of-state trip request for the Copperas Cove HS Copperettes dance team to travel to Orlando in January 2027, where they plan to compete in the UDA National Dance Team Championship.
“Our students in Cove are some of the most dedicated in Texas to their craft, and it’s evident in the success they are able to achieve every year,” Dr. Hawkins said. “The Copperettes are no different, and this competition will allow them to showcase to the nation what being a Bulldawg really means. We are confident it will bring more trophies back to Bulldawg Nation and I look forward to seeing their excellence in Orlando.”
The Board of Trustees is next scheduled to hold a Special Called Meeting at 5 p.m. on Aug. 4th, followed by a Special Called/Workshop Meeting at 5 p.m. Aug. 10th and a Regular Meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 17th.
All three meetings are scheduled to take place in the Board Room, located at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street.
